New USI Executive hosts Students’ Union Training for 2020-2021

The Union of Students in Ireland Executive team for 2020-2021 has hit the ground running in its first fortnight in office. With cross-over weeks and induction training done for the new executive, Wednesday (July 15) saw the start of the annual Students’ Union Training for SU officers from member organisations all across the island. The USI website has been refreshed as of 24 March 2021 at 21.35.  In the interim period (first week) we would expect the site to have some minor problems which could manifest as: Slower performance than recently Some pages being at different locations, resulting in dead links or 404 Errors Context display anomalies (stuff not looking like it was designed to). Budget 2021 ignores barriers preventing student access to higher education in favour of piecemeal one-off funding

Statement by USI President, Lorna Fitzpatrick “In Budget 2021, Government has ignored the systemic barriers preventing students from accessing higher education which will only be addressed through continuous financial support and not through one-off funding packages. USI called for an urgent reduction in the Student Contribution Charge and we are extremely disappointed the charge has not been reduced. This would have been a commitment from this Government to recognise and address the underlying problem – that students face the highest fees in the EU, which are a financial barrier to accessing education. Union of Students in Ireland statement on Irish AIDS Day 2021

Today marks 40 years since the first AIDS case was diagnosed in Ireland in 1982. The Union of Students in Ireland renews its calls on Government to invest in the expansion of HIV testing services across Ireland. If we are serious about reversing HIV cases, we need to invest in HIV testing, we must ensure barrier-free access to PrEP and sexual health clinics and services across Ireland with a serious focus on ending HIV-related stigma in Ireland. Student leaders, activists and student-led groups have been recognised in a virtual awards ceremony, hosted by the Union of Students in Ireland. The Student Achievement Awards Ireland (SAAIs), now in their eighth year, recognise the outstanding contribution of students towards campus life and community, and wider society, across 21 categories. ‘Supporting Wellbeing in Practice’ webinar and report

The Union of Students Ireland with the support of the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education today held an online webinar on ‘Supporting Wellbeing in Practice’ across the sector. This was very exciting research project, beginning in January 2021, that examined the practice of embedding wellbeing in the curriculum in higher education in Ireland.
